The Spanish pilot Adrian Huertas increased his earnings at the head of the World Championship classification after winning Race 1 of WorldSPP of the Tissot Aragón round held at the MotorLand circuit.
After getting the Tissot Superpole award on Friday, after four consecutive pole positions, the 21-year-old Spaniard will be looking to take three of the three first places in Race 2 on Sunday.
The 15-lap race at the Aragon round saw an exciting battle for the podium positions, with Montella and Valentin Debise (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team) strong at the start of the race and fought for second place.
Despite his strong start to the race, Montella seemed to struggle with his pace late in the race as the Yamahas proved to be the more dominant bikes on the track. He failed to make the podium as Debise crossed the finish line six tenths faster, just behind Manzi, who took second place at the Spanish circuit.
In fifth place, Jorge Navarro (Orelac Racing Verdnatura) and Lucas Mahias (GMT94 Yamaha) crossed the checkered line, completing the top six finishers.
Can Oncu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) finished seventh ahead of Federico Caricasulo (Motozoo ME AIR Racing) and Dutchman Glenn van Straalen (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) in eighth and ninth while Bahattin Sofuoglu (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) completed the top 10 of Race 1.
Huertas took his tenth victory of the 2024 season at Aragon while Manzi gave Yamaha its 400th podium place by becoming the first manufacturer to reach this milestone.
The new surface of the Aragón track did not seem to affect Huertas, who now extends his solid lead in the Championship. Chasing the seemingly unstoppable Spanish driver are Italian drivers Yari Montella and Stefano Manzi, who are now tied on points after Race 1, with 304 points, while Huertas remains on top with 359 points.
