Real Madrid sent a four-page letter to Investigative Court No. 1 of Barcelona investigating the case of Negreira where it asks the judge to confirm the charges of Toni Freixa in Barcelona. The former spokesperson for the Board of Directors of Barcelona during the time of Josep María Bartomeu told Cadena Cope that he spoke about the payments of the Barça club to companies linked to José María Enrique Negreira (7.3 million euros) while he is vice president of the Referees Technician Committee.
“One president, one after the other, one after the other… did not dare to remove it because he thought things would be worse for us,” said Freixa. Now, Madrid wants to use these statements for investigation, which is why it sent the letter to which the Libertad Digital portal had access.
“Such statements made with such spontaneity and naturalness – so much so that they lead one to imagine a certain sense of impunity on the part of those who practice them even knowing the existence of judicial this procedure – will definitely prove: (I) that the million dollar payments made in recent years by FC Barcelona to companies controlled by Mr. Enriquez Negreira their purpose is to influence arbitration proceedings; (II) that the Presidents of FC Barcelona are directly involved in the decision to make the payments; (III) that Mr. Enriquez Negreira ensured the validity of the prohibited service it provided,” said the text of Madrid.
“The close symmetry between the statements of Mr. Freixa and the motivation stated by Mr. Enríquez Negreira in relation to the payments he received from FC Barcelona in the statement he gave before the Tax Inspection is went unnoticed. The payments were intended, now confirmed and apparently indisputable, to influence the treatment of referees at FC Barcelona,” added the white club in the text published by Digital Freedom.
“As reported, Mr. Freixa has tried to publicly deny the meaning of his statements, in what seems to be nothing but a clear example of their importance. Its truth and literal tenor, we believe, excuses us from elaborating on explaining how Mr. Freixafull of unfortunate disqualifications and warnings (“media cavern”, “club-state”, “justice will put them in their place”), is of no small value”, said real Madrid.
Freixa’s self-defense
Toni Freixa appeared to defend himself against the accusations. Hours after his Cope speech, he took to social media to attack his critics. “Now the whole cave is putting words in my mouth that I have NEVER said. Their mission is to cover up the state of the club from what we have ALL seen in our entire lives. And they are willing to do anything. Justice will bring them too in their place,” the former candidate for the presidency of Barcelona in the 2021 elections was placed in X.
The former director of Barcelona also participated in the program Onze from TV3. “I am glad to have the opportunity to go to court to defend Barcelona and distort all those who are nervous and try to divert attention from what happened in the history of Spanish football. The Negreira Case is an alibi to cover up what we all has been experienced in the history of Spanish football since we can remember that Barça received favored treatment when it was just the opposite,” said Freixa.
“The Negreira case is a smokescreen. This is not what the Madrid media is selling. The services are contracted for which the money is paid but does not serve what they continue to want to sell from Madrid,” added Freixa.
“It’s tiring and repetitive, it’s always the same. Barça wins a game and the next day the Madrid media has to talk about it and keep insisting that the victories of the best Barça in history in between 2005 and 2017 is not thanks to the quality of the team but to another story they want to sell to cover up what they have always received as a favor throughout their history,” he noted. Freixa.
