Real Madrid will begin its fourth participation in the Women’s Champions this Tuesday against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge with the aim of getting a positive result against one of the favorites to start the group stage on the right foot, with the white team falling to both latest campaigns.
“We are very excited about this competition where for the fourth year in a row we have reached the Group Stage. Let’s give it a lot of value because it’s not easy to get here, many strong teams are left behind. The beginning of the season was very good, we had many wins and a very good feeling,” explained Alberto Toril in a press conference.
The coach hopes that his team will not be affected by the scenario or the rival, which he does not know the victory after four matches. “I want us to show character and competitive ability, to think about ourselves and to enjoy the game, let the stadium not let us down. We have the capacity to do well, there are good talented players,” added Toril.
“We are playing against a great rival but we think about our players, our work and our way of playing. We want to put Chelsea, a great rival, in difficulties, but we have the capacity to play a good game and get a positive result,” declared the Real Madrid coach.
Melanie Leupolz, one of this summer’s star signings, is also excited to play against Chelsea, a club where she has played for four seasons. “We have a good squad and great goals this year. We face the competition with great enthusiasm. With my experience I hope to contribute my grain of sand to the team and contribute to the successes we want to achieve,” said the German midfielder.
“I played for Chelsea for four years and to come back is special. They made very good signings in the summer, like Lucy Bronze, who will bring a lot of experience. But we also have a young and very talented team. Two opposing styles of play will confront each other,” said Leupolz, who feels no pressure to compete with a club that counts its participation in the Champions League as failures.
“I don’t consider it pressure, for me it is a privilege. Given the history of this club and this shirt, I feel proud every day to represent this shield,” he said.
