A 16-year-old Ukrainian competing for the fifth time on the European Tour said he will continue his routine of playing table tennis and watching Netflix in his quest to stay atop the French Open rankings at Le Golf National near Paris. Lev Grinberg shot a 66 (-5) and tied for fourth place, one shot off the lead, after Thursday’s first round.
Grinberg lives at Le Golf National, which is hosting the tournament, and woke up thinking the first round might be canceled after Wednesday’s heavy rain. “I went to film some videos at 7 pm on the 16th hole, and everything was a lake,” he said.
Asked what he would do to stay in touch with the leaders, Grinberg said: “Do my normal routine. Play ping-pong with my friends in the afternoon. Sleep well. Watch Netflix. Train, eat and yes , the same plan tomorrow and see what happens.”
His previous appointments on the European circuit were at the Soudal Open (three times) and the Dutch Open.
Thorbjorn Olesen, Joe Dean and Jesper Svensson lead after 65 rounds while the best Spaniards with 68 are Jorge Campillo and Manuel Elvira.
