Testament reveals – that was the last and only wish of the pope

Date:

The pope, who died in the morning Easter Monday, mentioned only one wish in his will. This influences his final resting place, which is supposed to be that of his predecessor elsewhere. The Vatican published the last will of the head of the church – he also wants a simple grave.

The last wish of the Pontifex, which died at the age of 88, concerns his funeral. In the will it is clear: Francis wanted to be buried without much wealth and splendor.

The pope stated this in his will: “In the consciousness that the evening of my earthly life is approaching, and in the lively hope of eternal life, I would only express my testamentary with regard to the place of my funeral.

I have always entrusted my life and my priestly and episcopal office to the mother of our Lord, the most holy Mary. That is why I ask that my remains awaiting the day of resurrection in the papal basilica Santa Maria Maggiore.

I wish my last earthly journey ends in this very old Marian Sanctuary, where I went to prayer at the beginning and at the end of every apostolic journey to trust the spotless mother and to thank her for her friendly and maternal care.

I ask that my grave in the niche in the niche in the side between the Pauline chapel (chapel of the “Salus Populi Romani”) and the Sforza chapel of the aforementioned papal basilica has been set up, as stated in the attached system. The grave must be on earth, simple, without special decorations and with the only inscription: Francis.

The costs for the preparation of my funeral are covered by the sum of a benefactor I had transferred to the papal Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore and for whom I gave Archbishop Rolandas Makrickas, the extraordinary commissioner of the Basilica chapter.

Those who loved me and who continue to pray for me can give the Lord the deserved wage. I sacrificed the suffering that I experienced for the Lord in the last part of my life for world peace and the brother or sister among the peoples. “

The will was written in Santa Marta on June 29, 2022, as shown from the document. Pope Franciscus is the seventh bishop of Rome, who finds his last resting place in this oldest Marienkirche in the West, as “Vatican News” reports. Since Pius X. (1903-1914), all direct predecessors of Francis have been buried in the Basilica of St. Peter.
