Stephan Jaeger leads the Black Desert Championship

Stephan Jaeger took the lead at the Black Desert Championship this Friday when the second round was suspended due to darkness in Ivins, Utah.

The German signed a card of 63 strokes (-8) and stood at -14, one shot ahead of Ben Kohles (64) and Canadian Adam Svensson (69).

Twenty players were on the course Friday afternoon when circuit officials suspended play. Among them is Matt McCarty, 3 under in his round and 12 under in the tournament with three holes remaining. He is tied for fourth place with Harris English (64), Sam Ryder (66) and Swede Henrik Norlander (68).

Play resumes this Saturday at 8:15 local time.

The Black Desert Championship is the first PGA Tour stop played in Utah since 1963 and the latest addition to the FedEx Cup fall series At the end of the fall, players in the top 125 in the points standings will earn full PGA Tour status for 2025.

That’s important for players like Norlander, who is No. 131 entering the week, and Ryder, who was No. 132.

Jaeger’s 63 tied the lowest round of the day. He made nine birdies and just one bogey, and finished his round with birdies on holes 14, 15, 16 and 18. The golfer chipped in from the rough for a good result. He made birdie from the rough on the par-3 15th hole.

Jaeger, 35, doesn’t have to worry about keeping his card for next season. He won the Houston Open in March for his first career PGA Tour title, made the FedEx Cup playoffs and finished in the top 50 in points.
