A former star of Premier League was arrested on suspicion of raping a girl at a prominent hotel in London’s West End. The footballer, who is in his 20s, was detained by police at the exclusive Corinthia Hotel, in Whitehall Place, after the complainant raised the alarm at the five-star hotel’s reception on Wednesday.
According to ‘The Sun’ source, she returned to the hotel with the player after meeting him at a bar in central London. The woman said she was attacked and raped by the footballer, whose name has not been released for legal reasons.
Police arrested him at the hotel at around 10am that same day and took him to Charing Cross police station, where he was questioned throughout the day in the presence of a lawyer.
After taking a DNA sample, taking a mugshot and fingerprinting, the player was released on bail until mid-December, pending further police investigation. Police have carried out a forensic examination of the player’s room as part of their investigation and are also studying CCTV footage from the hotel.
Appointment at a bar
The Sun’s source said that the girl “met the player in a bar and agreed to go back to his hotel, where she had previously booked. She claimed that he then attacked her and raped her. The woman at the hotel reception and claimed that the police were alarmed and officers arrived and arrested him at the hotel, where he was taken to the amazement of guests and staff.
The aforementioned media claim that the player was born abroad and has played for several English clubs as well as representing his home country at youth and senior levels. The source revealed that “he has played in the Premier League and people will recognize him. The accusations against him are very serious.”
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “A man was arrested at 9.53am on Wednesday 9 October at an address in Whitehall Place, SW1A, following an allegation of rape. He has been bailed until mid-December. The woman is being supported by special trained officers. The investigation is ongoing.”
