The 29-year-old has hinted at retirement on several occasions, but on Monday he told News Corp’s Code Sports that he will return for the World Tennis League exhibition tournament in December, before trying his luck at the Australian Open in January.

I came back because there was something that kept me in the game“said the man who earned a controversial reputation for his mid-match tantrums and outbursts early in his career.

“I think I was labeled that way because I was a little bit outside the circle of what a normal tennis player is,” he admitted.

“I beat almost everything they put in front of me, I reached the Grand Slam final, I won the Grand Slam doubles title, I won many titles and I made money,” Kyrgios recalled.

“That will be my deep motivation,” he said.

Kyrgios, who worked as a commentator in his absence, reached his only Grand Slam singles final at Wimbledon in 2022, losing in four sets to Serbian Novak Djokovic.
