The Uruguayan Diego Alonsowho coached Sevilla last season, was fired as coach of Panathinaikos Greek after only four months in office. The Greek team announced its termination after a series of poor results for the team in both the Greek Superleague and the Conference.
“The team’s technical director announced on Diego Alonso the termination of his collaboration with Panathinaikos,” the Greek club said in a brief statement in which it wished the Uruguayan and his technical team the best of luck.
Diego Alonso was Sevilla’s coach until last December, when he was replaced by Quique Sánchez Flores. Previously, the Uruguayan occupied the bench in the same 2023-24 season after the dismissal of the Jose Luis Mendilibarwho started the campaign.
The Uruguayan took the reins of Panathinaikos in June and, even though the Greek team was eliminated by Ajax Dutch in the qualifiers for European Leaguemanaged to get a position in Conference after being deleted RC Lens French.
