The classification of the Brazilian F1 GP that will be held this Saturday has been postponed this Sunday due to the heavy rain that poured at the Interlagos Circuit. This indicated a major unexpected change: the entire program was changed, including the time when the race would be held.
F1 has announced that the classification of the F1 2024 Brazilian GP will be held at 7:30 am local time, that is, at 11:30 am in Spain.
For its part, Sunday’s race was scheduled to take place at 6:00 pm (Spanish time), but its schedule has also been changed. Finally, the F1 2024 Brazilian GP race will be held this Sunday at 4:30 pm (Spanish time), 12:30 pm
New schedule:
- Classification: 11.30 (Spain) / 7:30 local time
- Brazilian F1 GP Race: 16.30 (Spain) / 12.30 local time Brazil
Why was the whole program changed?
It should be noted that the difficulty of finding a good time for sorting is enormous, because the weather forecast indicates that the probability of rain increases after 8 am (local time). This may explain why F1 chose 7:30 am local time to increase the chances that the ‘qualy’ will be held and that rain will not prevent it from having to be cancelled.
F1 and FIA had to find a new schedule between the support races present in Brazil, so they decided to change both schedules in order to establish a better program for all interested parties.
What if it rains again in qualifying?
The chance of rain this Sunday is more than 80% throughout the day starting at 8 am (local time)though be careful, because for the new classification time the probability is 65%.
If finally the classification cannot be carried out at the newly scheduled time due to rain, it remains to be seen if F1 decides to adjust the grid in the Free Practice 1 classification positions. (as set on previous occasions) or the achievements in the sprint classification held on Friday, as this is the first time that a ‘qualy’ has been postponed to a sprint race weekend.
If FP1 is to be taken as a reference, Norris will start first, Sainz, 7, Alonso, 9 and Verstappen will face a big problem in the middle of the fight for the title as he will have to start 15th. Taking the ‘qualy’ sprint as a reference, Norris starts 2nd and Max, 4th, with Sainz 5th and Alonso, 16th.
