The American Coco Gauffthird player in the world, completed his revenge against his compatriot JEssica Pegula at the WTA Finals, after winning by a resounding 6-3 and 6-2, in an hour and a quarter, in the first match of both in the Orange Group of the event taking place in Riyadh.
Gauff lost a year ago to Pegula in the semifinals of this tournament. A year later, the 20-year-old player from Delray Beach, champion this year in Beijing and Auckland and the US Open in 2023, turned the situation around and achieved his first victory.
The American conflict ended on Gauff’s side. Both are facing their third appearance in the WTA finals. Pegula, who until this meeting in Riyadh had won four of the five previous matches between the two, reached the final in 2023, losing to the Polish Iga Swiatek.
Coco Gauff’s twentieth win against a top ten player was unassailable. He used his greatest skills on the hard court, where he won a record seven titles.
