“I needed a 180 degree turn after leaving it to Djokovic”

Date:

This Tuesday, Novak Djokovic announced that he will not compete in the ATP Finals. The Serbian is ending the season due to a “persistent injury” that does not allow him to compete at the highest level, and he is doing so without a coach.

The winner of 24 Grand Slam titles months ago broke off his professional relationship with Goran Ivanisevic, who now he will work with Elena Rybakina facing the start of the 2025 season.

I know it seems strange to many and people are surprised by our collaboration, but I am not. I needed a 180 degree turn after Novak“, declared the former Croatian tennis player in ‘Tennis Majors’ in an interview published this Tuesday.

“I won everything with Novak, so I’m excited about this new challenge. Honestly, during my time on the ATP Tour, I never imagined myself in the women’s circuit, but I don’t see myself in men’s tennis at the moment.“added Ivanisevic, who also previously coached Marin Cilic, Tomas Berdych and Milos Raonic.

Rybakina won titles in Brisbane, Abu Dhabi and Stuttgart in the first half of 2024, but then missed several tournaments due to illness and injury. The Kazakh lost her first two matches at the current WTA Finals in Riyadh.

In the same interview, Ivanisevic gave his opinion on the rivalry between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. “They are different players, but when they are both at their best, I feel that Sinner is better. He was more consistent throughout the fight, whether Alcaraz could make incredible shots or make some easy mistakes,” he said.

“This year Carlos had some losses that I can’t explain. If we take Novak out of the equation, They dominate, they are head and shoulders above everyone else on the circuit”added the Croatian former tennis player.
