Yesterday, Tuesday, we knew about the exceptions that FIFA included in Regulations on the Law of Transfer of Players face the Club World Cup this coming summer. But there is also another important new thing and it is for 2026 when, as we already have in MD, the new selection window will come into effect that year will start on September 21 and last until October 6. That means, total 16 days instead of the current two windows of nine days is now nine days and is valid till October 2025. Instead of two, there will be four matches to be played in this new scenario that FIFA has. is scheduled until the end of 2030.
Currently the Regulations state that “An international period is a period of nine days, beginning on Monday morning and ending on Tuesday evening of the following week (subject to the following temporary exception), reserved for representative team activities At these international stages, each representative team can play a maximum of two matches (subject to the following temporary exception), regardless of whether they are qualification matches for an international tournament or friendly games starting on Wednesday for any day of the international season, provided that at least two full calendar days remain between the two matches.
Well, the same annex to the Regulations already includes that “Starting in 2026, the international season of September and October will consist of 16 days during which each national team can play a maximum of four matches.”
In 2027 this window will be from May 20 to October 5, in 2028 it will be from September 18 to October 3; in 2029 from September 24 to October 9 and finally in 2030 it will start from September 23 to October 8.
As also stated in the new rule update, in this new phase “players will have to be released, who will start their journey to join the representative team no later than Monday morning and make the journey back to their club no later than on the morning of the following Wednesday, after the end of the international period”.
