The DP World Tour confirmed this Friday penalties which will be imposed on members who violate the Tour rules and participate in a tour event. LIV Golf at Centurion Club from June 9 to 11, despite not receiving communications allowing them to do so.
Participants in this first Saudi LIV golf tournament “will be fined £ 100,000 and banned from the following DP World Tour tournaments: Genesis Scottish Open and Barbasol Championship (July 7-10) and Barracuda Championship (July 14-17)”.
The money collected from the fines, as reported by the former European Tour, will be distributed equally in two different ways; on the one hand it will be added to the prizes of subsequent tournaments and on the other hand it will be distributed through Golf for Good to charities.
“Every action of a person in life has consequences and it is no different in professional sports.especially if someone chooses to break the rules, ”said Keith Pelley, CEO of DP World Tour.
“Many members I have spoken to in recent weeks have expressed the view that those who choose this route not only disrespect them and our Tour, but also the meritocratic ecosystem of professional golf that has been the foundation of our game in past 50 years and that. will also be the foundation on which we build the next 50, “Pelley concluded.
