A representation of Real Betis Balompié, through its environmental program, Forever Green, moved to Baku to participate in the Climate Summit and participate in some of the spaces of this event, reported the Verdiblanco club through its Foundation.
One of the milestones is that Real Betis is one of the creators of the Alliance of Football Clubs for the Climate, which was presented on Saturday. This initiative was promoted by Qarabag and the European Club Association (ECA) with the support of the COP29 Presidency and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
In addition to Qarabag and Atlético de Madrid, The alliance includes Liverpool and Tottenham (United Kingdom), Fenerbahce, Galatasaray (Turkey), Udinese (Italy), Porto (Portugal), Flamengo (Brazil) and Malmo (Sweden).
With the signing of the Baku Declaration, these clubs commit to raising awareness about climate issues and promote the fight against climate change using the influence of football. Furthermore, they show their willingness to cooperate not only among themselves, but also with other relevant organizations, including the Sports for Climate Action initiative.
In addition, the manager of the Real Betis Balompié Foundation and spokesperson for Forever Green, Rafael Muela, participated in some of the round tables held during the Climate Summit. Beside Ms. Tahmina Taghi-zade, Azerbaijan National Anti-Doping Agency (AMADA) ADA Executive Director; and Mr. Nasser Ayman Majali, Secretary General, Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF), the green and white club presented the initiatives that Real Betis is taking to make its activity as respectful as possible to the environment during the round table that “Sports the shadow of COP29: tailored solutions for sustainable action.
On the other hand, with the help of Sports for Climate Action, a UN initiative to which Real Betis belongs, Rafael Muela participated on the panel “Stories on the pitch: sports creatures in focus”, with FIFA, UEFA and Liverpool.
Real Betis Balompié and Forever Green are also part of the “Sports for climate action: pick up the ball to act for climate change” meeting. Youth, sport and sustainability: building a responsible future”, where different ways to involve young people in the fight against climate change are debated.
The green and white club also took advantage of this event to maintain a meeting with Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla, president of the Junta de Andalucía, members of the regional government and Spanish businessmen present in Baku. This meeting, organized by the Spanish Group for green growth, made it possible to share, in the Andalusian context, the views and suggestions of entrepreneurs and regional governments to make the most of the transition to a decarbonized economy, from a industrial point of view, economic and social.
