Premier sweeps: 448.49 million on signatures!

Date:

With less than a month having passed since the Champions League finals, the match that ended last year, the clubs of the five major European Leagues are strengthening their squads to prepare for the 2022-23 season. And, of all the numbers, one stands out from the others: the teams premier league spend 448.99 million euros on signatures.

No other tournament can match that amount. They are not close. No one can hold the pulse of English entities, with an economic power they show after getting top names weekly to decorate their championship.

448.99 million euros represents 37.11 per cent of total transfer spending of all clubs in the five major leagues. Italian Serie A, the German Bundesliga, French Ligue 1 and LaLiga Santander, are behind that percentage.

In total, since the summer market began, 122 movements have been made with a total value of 1,208.508 million euros. Of these, apart from 448.49 in the Premier League, 284,388 correspond to Serie A (23.53 per cent); 218.68 in the Bundesliga (18.09 percent); 141.80 in LaLiga Santander (11.73 percent); and 115.15 in Ligue 1 (9.52 per cent).

There is still time before the market closes to level the accounts, but at the moment, the Premier League is sweeping. And, at the current rate, he could approach the 1.3 billion euros he spent last year on transfers.

The liquidity available to Premier League clubs corresponds to the revenue they derive from television rights being distributed equally and to a high percentage of millionaire owners who are able to promote greater spending. .

Names like the Thai Ayawatt Srivaddahanaprabba (Leicester), the British Joe Lewis and Daniel Levy (Tottenham), the Egyptian Nassef Sawiris (Aston Villa), the American Stan Kroenke (Arsenal) or the Arab Sheik Mansour, provide more fluid to British teams.

For this reason, among the ‘top ten’ of the most expensive transfers so far this summer, Premier League clubs are contributing six names: Darwin Núñez, from Benfica to Liverpool in the amount of 75 million euros; Erling Haaland, from Dortmund to City in the amount of 60; Fábio Vieira, from Porto to Arsenal for 35; Nayef Aguerd, from Rennes to West Ham, also for 35; Brenden Aaronson, from Salzburg to Leeds for 32.84; and Diego Carlos, from Sevilla to Aston Villa for 31.

Tchouameni (Real Madrid) is promoting LaLiga

There is almost no room for other lavish signings from other leagues. Of course, so far, the most expensive is Aurélien Tchouameni, to whom Real Madrid paid 80 million euros to Monaco. Also on the list are Federico Chiesa, who cost Juventus 40 million; Nuno Mendes, who PSG paid 38 to Sporting; and Sadio Mané, who left Liverpool for Bayern for 32.

LaLiga Santander, if not for the move of Real Madrid, is now at the bottom of the list of tournaments with the most spent this summer. Without the 80 million invested by the white club, the Spanish teams would hardly have spent 61.80 million euros.

Thanks to this disbursement, LaLiga does not occupy the last place. That was for French Ligue 1 clubs, which nearly spent 110.15 million euros, 9.37 per cent of the total. Both in France and in Spain, these numbers may still vary. Clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona or Paris Saint-Germain can still make big signings.

Meanwhile, the remaining teams, especially the Spaniards, are moving into the market based on zero cost acquisitions or assignments. This is the most used system within the mandatory Economic Control. Since 2013, a regulatory framework has been approved with the aim of ensuring the continuity of competition and its own clubs by analyzing the financial situations.

LaLiga has established a strict financial control that prevents a return to the scenario of economic deterioration at the end of the 20th century, where the debts of clubs to private suppliers and public administrations, including the Treasury and Social Security, puts Spanish football on the brink. of collapse. In any case, the Spanish clubs have not yet hit the accelerator and their last minute signings remain to be known.

Serie A increases spending on top Atalanta

The remaining leagues have also slipped out of the Premier League and only Serie A seems to be following. Yes, even in the distance. In total, Italian clubs spent 284.388 million euros, 23.53 percent of the continent’s total signings.

Costs are shared across multiple teams. In fact, among the top ten who invested the most signings of all teams in Europe, there is only one Italian, Atalanta, who is tenth after spending 42 million euros.

Behind, Juventus is eleventh with 40 million euros, Napoli is thirteenth with 36, Sassuolo is sixteenth with 28, Hellas Verona is twentieth with 20.20. But all is far from the English clubs, which dominate the top positions.

The entity with the most spent so far is Liverpool. In total, 85.79 million euros are left for Darwin Núñez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay. Second is Real Madrid, with 80 million euros. And, among the top ten, there are four other English teams: Manchester City (60 million euros), Leeds United (57.84), Aston Villa (54.50) and Arsenal (44.86).

So far, the numbers don’t lie. The Premier League takes the cake. Again, his signatures flooded the market. However, large payouts are not guaranteed success. You just have to look at the names of the clubs that have won European tournaments: Real Madrid lifted the Champions League, Eintracht the Europa League and Roma the Conference League. Money is not synonymous with success.
