The Brazilian exhibition Matheus Cunhawho scored two goals and an assist, reaffirmed the improvement of Wolverhampton, who scored Craven Cottage in Fulham (1-4) and temporarily left the Premier relegation zone.
The former Atlético Madrid player gave a recital in London. He has been key to his team’s success, which has now gone four games without defeat. Two draws and two defeats have brought relief to Gary O’Neil’s side, who have speeded up the competition and are on the rise.
Wolverhampton were never in doubt when Fulham took the lead on twenty minutes with a goal from Nigerian Alex Iwobi who took a ball received from Kenny Tete into the net.
But after half an hour Cunha began his particular role. He managed to equalize when he took advantage of a long pass by Mario Lemina. He showed unmarking, control and finishing against goalkeeper Bernd Leno to establish the tie.
After the break an assist was recorded. He sent the ball to Joao Gomes who scored 1-2 which brought the score back for the visitors.
With Fulham reversed, Wolverhampton took advantage of the seal. Another good goal from the Brazilian. In combination, Gomes left the ball to Cunha in front without stopping, when it came to him, executed a shot into the top corner that was impossible for Leno. And in added time, Portuguese Gonçalo Guedes scored Wolves’ fourth from Joren Larsen’s pass.
Wolverhampton now marks safety. They are one point ahead of Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town, who have a game in hand.
