Ferrari and McLaren will play off the Constructors’ World Championship in the final race: the Italians make the cut

Date:

After the double of McLaren in Saturday’s sprint race and the foreseeable bad pace in qualifying Ferrarithey happily promised them to the team of Moving increased its advantage to Constructors’ World Cup up to 30 points. This Sunday, McLaren had another good chance to extend that margin to face the Abu Dhabi GPthe last race of the year, with everything in mind to win the brands title. But a cheeky mistake by Norris changed everything.

Lando was fighting for the win and the Englishman’s 2nd place would have given McLaren a good haul of points, but the Briton didn’t reduce his speed enough in a yellow flag situation because there was a rearview mirror in the middle of the straight and he paid dearly for it with a ‘stop and go’ penalty which saw him finish 10th, thus adding just one point.

That gave wings to Leclerc, who for his part won the game in a good battle on a restart in Piastri to be 2nd. That result, along with Oscar’s third place and Sainz’s 6th place, affected by a puncture due to the aforementioned glass on the track, shaved Ferrari 9 points off McLaren.

Those from Maranello can leave Qatar alive and well and continue to dream of breaking their title drought, which has lasted since 2008, when the red team won the Constructors’ World Cup. For its part, McLaren has not won this crown since 1998. The rivalry between the two historics will be determined in the last race of the year, in Abu Dhabi, where anything can happen. Only 21 points separate them. Maximum emotions until the end.

Classification of the F1 Constructors’ World Championship after the Qatar GP:

  1. McLaren 640 points
  2. Ferrari 619
  3. Red Bull 581
  4. Mercedes 446
