Inter Milan’s strike crushed a Lazio that went down to earth with a great goal with four goals conceded in just 12 minutes, which passed between 0-1 penalty from Çalhanoglu in th -41 minutes of the first half and from Dumfries in the 53rd minute of the second. Carlos Augusto and Marcus Thuram put the icing on the cake with the fifth and sixth goals in an Olympic team stunned by the relentless decline of Marco Baroni’s men, who arrived at the event having grown after settling at the top of the Europa League.
The Lazial team entered the match better than its rival, developing dangerous strategies with Pedro, Zaccagni, Isaksen and Noslin. The Dutch striker had 1-0 under his boot but his shot, with everything in his favour, rose. Inter, without doing anything out of this world, got a foothold in the game based on the hierarchy of Barella and Çalhanoglu.
The first rhythm of the match was lost after Mario Gila got sick. The young Madrid player was performing at a high level in the axis of Lazio’s defense but had to be substituted almost half an hour into the game due to a physical problem. His substitute, the Frenchman Gigot, was the star of the match when he produced a handball in the Roman area which, after the referee went through the VAR screen, ended the score 0-1 from eleven- a meter by Çalhanoglu ( 41′ ).
The goal was a blow for Lazio and gave wings to Inter Milan, who had been cautious until then. An impressively executed counterattack between Lautaro, Çalhanoglu and Dumfries was completed by Dimarco with an impressive volley that went all alone at the far post (44′).
In the second half, Inter buried any chance of a reaction from Lazio with two great goals right from the locker room. On 51′ Barella beat Provedel with his right foot from outside the area and two minutes later Dumfries connected with a fine header into Bastoni’s centre.
The match was over but Inter, far from taking their foot off the accelerator, continued to push in search of more goals. With a quarter of an hour remaining, Carlos Augusto made a pass from Dimarco. The Neroazzurro team put the icing on the cake with their superb performance with Thuram’s 0-6 in the 90th minute.
