US legend Becky Sauerbrunn retires with honors

Becky Sauerbrunnlegend of USA., retire after more than 16 years fully devoted to professional football. The 39-year-old former captain of the United States team, a two-time World Cup winner and 219 caps, leaves with an unblemished record of service in which he lifted the MLS championship trophy with Portland thorn on three occasions.

“Sixteen years ago I woke up dreaming and I haven’t slept since,” Sauerbrunn wrote on social media. “That makes it sound easy, but it was never easy. But I would still do it again. It’s not goodbye. I’ll be around. I love this sport too much to leave it forever. But for the first time in sixteen years I’ll find a moment of silence and close my eyes for a while,” she wrote.

“Being able to wear the US Soccer badge is an honor and a privilege for which I will be forever grateful. The fact that I have done it over 200 times is truly humbling.”
