Amorim finally calls Rashford!

Date:

Manchester United host Newcastle tonight in the final Premier League match of 2024. And they will do so with a brand new one. After four games without him, the Portuguese coach Rúben Amorim has finally called up Marcus Rashford.

Amorim has ruled out the English striker in the last three Premier League games against Manchester City, Bournemouth and Wolverhampton, as well as in the League Cup quarter-final tie against Tottenham. He has not played since December 12 against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League.

Amorim justified his decision not to call up Rashford based on his poor performance: He has 4 Premier League goals in 15 games, one in the Europa League and two in the League Cup. In total 7 goals in 24 games.

Rashford made sure he wanted to leave

“He just has to be at the best level and that’s my goal. I just want to help him,” Amorim said a few days later. The player announced his intention to leave United in an interview to face new challenges.

In England, there have been arguments for Rashford’s return to the squad due to the absences United have faced against Newcastle since Bruno Fernandes sent off on Thursday on Boxing Day against Wolverhampton, and Manuel Ugarte was authorized and Mason Mount, Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelöf, injured.
