The gymnast from Alicante Polina Berezina said goodbye in 2024 after a historic year in which he participated in his first Olympic Games, which he described as “a huge psychological challenge after falling in the first exercise”but he assured that “the more time that passes” the more positively he sees his involvement.
“I think I passed that test, I knew how to react, come back and fight as much as possible in the last three practices. Of course the results were not what I wanted, but I was left to improve and gave it my all. for my part to fight to be in the Olympic final,” he recalled in statements to the Valencian Community Gymnastics Federation.
Berezina, born in Russia, but living in Guardamar del Segura since 2001, admitted that it was “very sad not to show the best work possible” when all the Spanish gymnasts (both her partner Alba Bautista individual and the group) They are more than prepared.
“But it’s sport, sometimes you have good days and other bad days. The only thing left for us is to learn, find out why and how it happened, and next time use this experience to our advantage. We enjoyed the experience in the village and the Palaro, it was something we will never forget and now it’s time for new challenges and dreams,” he assured.
The Olympic gymnast also explained that from Paris 2024 he learned that “you have to fight until the end” and that “a fall does not define you as an athlete”, but rather it defines how you react to that situation .
“Sometimes things don’t go the way we want, but that’s no reason to throw in the towel.”but rather take advantage of the learning and proceed with more enthusiasm. We have to continue dreaming big, because reaching the Games is a great dream come true and being able to live it beyond the result is worth it,” he added.
Finally, about the new cycle, Berezina said “Right now we have to go step by stepthere are still four years before the next Games. There is a change in the code that you need to adapt and see how it goes. Therefore, for now the goals will be short-medium term. But there’s no doubt it’s a good thing to experience other Games.”
