Date:

The Iranian footballer Ramin Rezaeian He was fined this Wednesday by the ethics committee of the country’s Soccer Federation for hugging a fan before a national championship match.

“Ramin Rezaian, a player for Tehran club Esteghlal, has been sentenced to pay 510 million rials ($640) for unsportsmanlike conduct,” the ethics committee said in a statement.

Rezaeian was allowed after a fan entered the team bus and hugged the international before Thursday’s game against the chadormalu in the central province of Yazd.

The 34-year-old right-back has played more than 60 games for Iran’s national team, in addition to playing for the country’s most important clubs such as Esteghlal, Persepolis and Sepahanand teams from Qatar and Belgium.

In a similar case, last April, the goalkeeper Hossein Hosseinialso from Esteghlalwas suspended for one game and fined the equivalent of $4,700, after a fan jumped onto the field at the end of a championship match and briefly hugged the goalkeeper.

In the Islamic Republic, public relations between men and women who do not belong to the same family circle are not permitted.

For 40 years, the Islamic Republic of Iran has not allowed women to attend stadiums, a taboo that was broken in 2019 in a Iran-Cambodia where 3,500 women attended, under pressure from FIFA. Since then, a limited number of women have been allowed in the stadiums.
