Many fans in the Republic of Ireland have criticized Roy Keane after celebrating Stephen Kenny and his team backstage after scoring late against Lithuania following his comments.
Troy Parrott’s 97th-minute shot on the green beat the boys 1-0 at Aviva Stadium, in the Baltic state, on Tuesday night.
The Spurs striker, currently on loan to MK Dons, scored his third highest international goal after Chidozhi Ojen twice, Conor Hurricane and Scott Hogan.
The goal sparked celebration both on and off the field as Kenny hugged his assistant Keith Andrews, but Kane was not happy.
He told ITV, “It was a huge victory. Better late than never, but they worked hard for it.”
“I think the celebration is very high at the end. But an important milestone, even for Parrott, is the presence of a young player.
“Maybe his career stalled for a while. But they kept going. Show some wits and some struggle. Get that victory. Feel good factor. Keep it up. A little bit of momentum.
“Honestly. From here on up. For executives, staff and players. Respond this way for a friendly victory. Come here! Get rid of him.”
But many Irish fans disagreed with Kane’s comments and lashed out at the Manchester United legend online.
Someone said: “Jeep, I don’t want to live in Roy Keane’s world!!! They won the match and celebrated it and does that justify them? Good sadness what a disgusting way of thinking.”
Another commented, “Ken is typical, nothing good to say. He definitely has a chip on his shoulder. Let Kane continue his work. By the way, he’s doing well now.”
Someone wrote: “If there was a Eurovision crying competition… Roy Keane would have been our participant every year…”

Another comment says: “Kenny does a good job at the end of the story.”
“Kane is becoming more and more irrelevant and losing the respect of more and more football fans with his useless and disgusting comments,” the second reads.
But some fans agreed with Kane and thought the celebration was a bit exaggerated, reports the Irish Mirror.
One of them said, “It was a bit of an exaggeration.”
Another posted: “We celebrate defeating one of the worst teams in the world in a friendly match!!! It was embarrassing, Kane is right, Kenny jumping like they were competing in the World Cup.
