In 2023, Tallinn will succeed from Grenoble as the European Green Capital. An award recognizing the Estonian capital’s commitment to the environment and its will towards a green transition that improves the quality of life of its citizens. With the same goal of creating healthier habits, the electric bicycle company works Ampler Bikes.
Its origins began in 2014, when its three founders, Ardo Kaurit, Hannes Laar and Rait Udumae they met in a garage and designed a prototype. It was only in 2016 that the first models of electric bicycles began to be made and sold. Since then, Ampler Bikes has had meteoric growth, entering the sector with vigor. The founding team is still involved in the development of the company and each of them manages a different area of the business.
Ampler wants to be a leading player in the transition Europe’s major capitals are experiencing towards more sustainable mobility. First of all, thanks to the manufacture of its products, elimination of plastic and use of materials designed to extend the useful life of bicycles. But its use is also being promoted, which is increasingly prevalent in cities like Tallinn.
A new factory that continues to grow
Currently the bicycle manufacturing process takes place in two different locations. Initially, painting and initial assemblies were taking place and eventually the bike finished its set-up in another warehouse. As a result of its growth, the founders decided to take a step forward to help them further refine the product. They knew the challenge that came with it but they faced it with enthusiasm and motivation.
Next year they will open a new factory that will allow them to be better. It is located within the city of Tallinn and will allow the brand to optimize its development. Growth has not stopped and is currently doubling the speed of manufacturing and sales annually. The ability to integrate all processes into a single factory will help Ampler continue to grow substantially.
Resonant success of the second generation of e-bikes
In March of this year, the brand launched the second generation of electric bikes. The news Ampler Juna and Ampler Axel, along with renewed models from Curt, Stout and Stellar, offers users a different range depending on their needs. The founders acknowledged that in order to achieve the design of this new generation of electric bicycles they interacted with their consumers, trying to understand the environment of their various markets.
Currently Germany represents 75% of its market share, followed by Netherlands. In 2018 they opened their first showroom in berlin and later they did the same in Cologne, Amsterdam, Zurich and Tallinn. Despite not being particularly present in Spain, they hope to gradually gain visibility in the coming years.
On the back of each bike there is a complete manufacturing process. They design their own materials, other than electronics. The battery, for example, originated in Taiwan. The first stage is especially laborious, a painting process that can take up to six hours and where each painting is discussed in detail.
As instructed Ardo Kaurit, co-founder and CEO of Ampler Bikes, “one of our secrets is to make every bike seem unique. We want to pass on our passion to consumers.” Kaurit is satisfied with the path taken so far and hopes to continue taking steps forward. But always “grow with meaning, in a sustainable way and with goals beyond money”. It is for this reason that before considering a third generation of e-bikes, they are constantly working to improve their current products and thus offer the consumer the best possible experience.
