A rock avalanche hit a group of four mountaineers on the Ötztaler Wildspitz on Saturday. Three people were hit by rocks and injured. Three helicopters were in action.
On Saturday, a group of four mountaineers climbed the Ötztaler-Wildspitz from the Breslauer hut in the municipality of Sölden. At about 2:20 p.m., the people descended from the Mittarkarjoch to the Mitterkarferner.
Avalanche released 100 meters higher
Below the via ferrata, the group descended without a safety rope over the glacier flank of the Mitterkarferner. Suddenly, about 100 meters above the group in the ridge area, a rock avalanche broke out. Three people from the group of four were hit and injured by the falling rocks. One person was not hit and was not injured.

Two people had to be flown to Zams Hospital by emergency helicopters with injuries of unknown extent. One slightly injured and one uninjured were rescued by the police helicopter. The investigation into the cause of the accident is still ongoing.
