Ethiopians Samuel Firewu and Majida Maayouf won the Valladolid International Cross

The Ethiopian Samuel Firewu and the Spanish Majida Maayouf was awarded by 37th International Cross City of Valladolidwhich is disputed in Cañada Real circuit with the participation of nearly 2,500 athletes of all ages, since Regional Cross Country Championship.


In the absolute category, Samuel Firewu -still under-23 runner-, he made good predictions and the good moment of form already shown in Elgóibar, and got the victory in Valladolid, leading the Spanish international Adel Mechaal and the Moroccan from Campo Grande Athletics Club, Othmane El Goumri.


It was an intense race, where the South African Maximun Chaymeton was the first to break away from the pace, but as the kilometers passed, Firewu began to impose himself and left his rivals behind.


First, to Chaymeton, then to El Goumri and, finally, to Adel Mechal who won the love of the large crowd present and gave everything, despite the fact that only 48 hours before he reached the minimum of 1,500 meters in Sabadell , for European indoor track.


In it Regional Championshipabsolute first place went to the Leonese Raúl Celada, followed by Valladolid’s Rubén Leonardo (Atletismo Numantino) and Vicente Viciosa (Vicky Foods Athletics).

Ángela Viciosa from Valladolid was also unable to defend the second place, in her debut in the category, but the final third position helped her win the regional title, where the woman born in Salamanca finished second. Gema Martín (Vicky Foods) and Claudia Corral from Segovia.
