Great Britain and Ireland finished a 17-8 win about Continental Europe in Team Cupan event that gave European players valuable experience before the Ryder Cup in New York next September.
The event was called earlier The Seven Trophies and played eight times from 2000 to 2013, with Great Britain and Ireland winning six editions and Continental Europe two. Six of the 20 players and captains from the 2023 edition played in the Ryder Cup that year. This year’s Ryder Cup will be at Bethpage Black next September.
Tommy Fleetwood secured the point that closed the expected victory of Great Britain and Ireland, led by Justin Rose who led 11-4 heading into Sunday’s singles after a dominant first two days at Abu Dhabi Golf Resort.
Great Britain and Ireland needed just two points in the singles and after Laurie Canter beat Romain Langasque 5&4, Fleetwood beat Matthieu Pavon 3&1. Fleetwood also took the winning point for Europe in victory over the United States in Rome to reclaim the Ryder Cup in 2023.
