Former Real Madrid player Fábio Coentrão was filmed on Thursday threatening journalists in Portugal after the publication of information about the alleged seizure of illegal seafood at his company in Póvoa de Varzim, some 348 kilometers from north of Lisbon.
A team from the middle SIC news Recording outside a warehouse of the former soccer player’s company on Coentrão left in anger meeting with journalists, asking them not to film his house and leave and threatening to destroy their equipment.
Journalists went to the place this Thursday after a news published by Jornal de Notícias, where it was pointed out that the former player opened the company without a license and all the fish stored there, almost a ton, were seized by the police
The Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) reported this Thursday in a statement on its website that it ordered the suspension of the activities of three “illegal warehouses” and that it seized 17 tons of food in Guimarães, Fafe and Póvoa de Varzim, without specifying the names of the companies.
According to the record, ASAE seized a total of 17 tons of food and 313 kilograms of live crustaceans, all this with a higher estimated value of 68,000 euros.
El Jornal de Notícias indicated that members of the Portuguese General Directorate of Natural Resources, Security and Maritime Services (DGRM) showed up yesterday, Wednesday, at the warehouse of Coentrão and found 12 tanks with sea water full of lobsters, shrimp, and spider crab, with a total of 1,073 kilos.
Of that amount, 760 were confiscated by the DGRM, while the remaining kilos were confiscated by the ASAE, because the area did not have an operating license or a license for the commercialization of fish in a hatchery.
In his career as a footballer, which he finished in July 2021, Coentrão, 36, was in clubs like Real Madrid, Zaragoza, Benfica, Sporting or Rio Ave.
According to Portuguese media, the former player opened a company in the fishing port of Póvoa de Varzim with a partner about six months ago.
