Isidre Esteve: “The Dakar is not how it starts, but how it ends”

Date:

Isidre Esteve, who this Sunday returned to Barcelona after participating in the twentieth edition of the Dakar Rally, is happy with the result achieved and emphasized that the test “is not how it starts, but how it ends and we in Dakar are got a step forward”, he commented.

The Toyota driver overcame mechanical and medical problems and in the second week he regularly fought for the absolute top 20 in the stages, to finish 22nd in the end, the top car category.

“We did not start the Dakar 2025 in the best way or, at least, not as we planned. Contracting the flu on the first day and having it affect my stomach made me suffer for four days. Then, due to a mechanical problem in the 48-hour time trial, we lost 3 hours, but everything is going well for everyone. The most important thing is to recover and have a very good rhythm in the second week,” he explained.

Despite these problems in the first week, physical and mechanical, the subsequent recovery allowed the Repsol Toyota Rally Team to climb to the doorstep of the top 20 in the ultimate category (22) and the top 30 overall (32).

After 14 days of competition and 4,906 timed kilometers out of a total of 7,828, the rigor of the race itself highlighted a result achieved by Isidre Esteve just by driving with his hands, with controls adapted to the Guidosimplex steering wheel, on a plane. of total equality.
