He Bayern Munich have signed the German midfielder Tom Bischof from Hoffenheimrival in the Bundesliga, for next season. Bischof, 19, has signed a contract until June 2029 after arriving on a free transfer, the Bavarian club said on Tuesday. The young player’s contract expires at the end of this season. He was Hoffenheim’s youngest player when he made his debut in the German championship, aged 16 years and 263 days, in March 2022.
The club failed to reach an agreement to extend his contract amid interest from Bayern, Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt. “It’s no secret that we want to extend Tom’s contract beyond June 30,” said Hoffenheim sporting director Andreas Schicker. “We tried everything to continue convincing him in the last year of his contract. However, Tom’s rapid athletic development has not been noticed by other well-known big clubs.”
Bischof will compete for a place in Bayern’s midfield, with his development likely to be aided by the departure of Leon Goretzka at the end of this season. “Bischof is one of the greatest German talents,” said Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund.
