Police are investigating threats against Michael Oliver

Date:

The Premier League Referees College (PGMOL) has confirmed that police are investigating insults and threats received by the referee Michael Oliver After the match in between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Arsenal last saturday Oliver fired Myles Lewis-Skelly for an entry about Matt Doherty saying Arsenal had to play the entire second half with one less man. This was not an obstacle for Mikel Arteta to take the three points.

The decision was corroborated by the referee in VAR and defended by PGMOL who published a statement respecting Oliver. “We are disappointed by the threats and insults directed at Michael Oliver. No referee should receive this kind of abuse, much less the horrific attack aimed at Oliver and his family in the last 24 hours. We support Michael and all those affected and are determined to end this unacceptable behavior“The PGMOL said, also confirming that a series of investigations had been opened.
