Mark Soler (UAE Emirates) featured the fact of rescuing the sun without major scratches, despite the fear caused by his boss’s disaster, Tadej Pogacar, who was “trapped against fences and had the same flat tires”.
“It’s a tough and dangerous stage, and as always you can’t relax until you get there. The ending is complicated, with air on your face. People go with vigor, everyone wants to be in the forefront and has nerves“, explained the Catalan cyclist at the finish line.
Soler explained the most complicated moment for his team, when already inside the safety zone, less than 3 km from the finish line, Slovenian Tadej Pogacar was involved in a pileup.
“About 2.5 km from the finish line, a runner from the Bike Exchange stopped pedaling, there were frictions and some collided with fences. Here Tadej Pogacar was trapped, with holes in both tires. Hirschi also fell, but nothing happened to him“, he said.
For Soler, crossing the Belt Bridge was not as traumatic as expected in case there was a strong wind on the side.
“The bridge isn’t particularly dangerous, the road is beautiful and the wind is blowing in your face. On days like this it’s about saving the day and not making any mistakes. Other than that, the sun is very beautiful , with a great highway atmosphere “.
