Tragedy in the Liezen District (Styria): A mountain tour took a deadly end on Sunday. A 52-year-old mountaineer from the Weiz district was found lifeless after a dramatic search was-was about 100 meters in a crack.
Like the styric police report, the wife of the experienced Alpinist resolved late on Sunday evening: her husband had not returned from a tour to the turn. A large -scale search was started immediately – with the Mountain Rescue, the police and various helicopters.
Search had to be canceled
An operation center was set up in Admont, but neither the mobile phone nor the man himself could be found. In the early Monday morning – after hours of exhausting search in the dark and difficult circumstances – the first use had to be canceled at 5 hours without success.
Easy name restored using a helicopter
The search went on a few hours later. And indeed: around 8:58 am the rescue helicopter C17 finally discovered the missing person in the raw site on the Rosschweif, near the Hoge Poort – about 2000 meters above sea level. But every help came too late: the 52-year-old was lifeless in a crack.
According to researchers, he should have crashed during the descent. The body was found by the police helicopter “Libelle Styria”.
