The women’s soccer team USAfirst in the FIFA rankings, being thrashed on Monday 3-0 against Haiti and confirmed his status as a favorite at the start of CONCACAF W Championshipqualify for the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
A brace from Alex Morgan and a goal from Margaret Purse sealed the Stars and Stripes thrash. Haiti was able to cut back, but wasted a penalty.
The Americans, world champions, came out to impose conditions against a rival confined to the back. In the 16th minute Morgan received help from Mallory Pugh and made it 1-0. The first half was almost entirely dominated by Americans with a ratio of 70 percent. The advantage was extended in the 23rd minute by a header from Morgan.
Haiti missed the chance to discount twice, the first in the 37th minute when Batcheba Louis entered the area dominated by the ball and stopped by goalkeeper Casey Murphy. In the 40th minute Emily Fox knocked Nérilia Mondésir down in the area and inflicted a penalty, but Roselord Borgella collided with the ball on the post and when the ball bounced, she kicked it out.
Borgella kicked Kelly O’hara in the 45th minute. He was booked, claimed by the Americans, when asked for a red card. The Americans maintained dominance in the second half. Haiti lasted until the 84th minute Purce made it 3-0 with his right hand slipping between the two defenders.
On Monday, in the second game of the opening day, Mexico fell against the odds against Jamaica (0-1). Next Thursday, on the second day, the United States will face Jamaica and Haiti will face Mexico.
