The Yangzhou Half Marathon World Championship was canceled in November due to pandemic

The International Athletics Federation (World Athletics) announced on Tuesday the cancellation of World Half Marathon scheduled for Nov. 22 at lin the Chinese city of Yangzhou as a result of the pandemic.

World Athletics confirmed that its Council made the decision after lengthy discussions with the local organizing committee and the Chinese Athletics Federation and by agreement between the parties on the impossibility of holding this year’s competition in Yangzhou.

The agency indicated that it had also decided to give the Chinese people the World Athletics Road Championships in March 2027.

The World Athletics President, British Sebastian Coe, He assured that giving another trial in Yangzhou in 2027 indicates his faith in the organizing committee and his willingness to go back and organize a trial ofs World Series of Athletics on the route “for the first time available”.

“Unfortunately, the championships cannot be held this year, for reasons beyond the organizing committee, but our endurance athletes will have the opportunity to compete in Riga next year,” he told Athletics World Championships en Routes on September 30 and October 1, 2023, which include a half-marathon and a 5-kilometer championship.
