Wimbledon slips a Russian in the final, Rybakina

Date:

The paradoxes of destiny. Wimbledon removed Russian and Belarusian tennis players from the tournament in protest against the invasion of Ukraine. A decision that caused controversy among tennis organizations to award points for their respective world rankings, in all categories.

That didn’t stop a Russian from entering the women’s singles final on Saturday (3:00 pm). Elena Rybakina entered the table because he had long agreed to compete under the banner of Kazakhstana country drawing on Russian talent to boost its international options.

Rybakina, who trained at the club until junior Moscow Spartak, his hometown, was chosen to be the new champion at Wimbledon and Grand Slam. He will be a hero in his adopted country. But the same gallons he wants for Tunisia, Africa and the Arab world Ons Jaber, the other finalist.

Rybakina, 23 years old and world number 23, ended the winning streak of the 2019 champion, the Romanian Simona Halep. After destroying Paula Badosa and Amanda Anisimova, adding twelve undefeated games at Wimbledon, she fell against the natural power of Rybakina, who settled on a devastating serve and forehand to win 6-3 and 6-3.

Rybakina’s best Grand Slam result was the quarterfinals at Roland Garros 2021. Last season he made his Wimbledon debut reaching the round of 16, falling victim to the Belarusian Aryna Sabalencka.
