Semenya, included on Eugene’s lists to participate in the 5,000

Date:

South African Olympic champion Caster Semeya is included on the entry list for the 5,000 -meter event at the World Championships in Oregon next week.

Semenya, who set a personal best of 15: 31.50 in the test earlier this year, did not make a qualifying time of 15: 10.00 and was also not included in the South African squad for the championships but will be allowed to compete after some of the high -ranking runners refused to participate in this event.

Semenya, a two -time Olympic 800m champion, began running in the 5,000m after being banned from competing in any race from 400m to mile starting in 2018.

To ensure fair competition, the IAAF has ruled that women with naturally high testosterone levels need to take testosterone -lowering drugs to compete in middle -distance races.

Semenya, who refuses to take any medication to alter her testosterone levels, has had little success in the alternative distances she competed and failed to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics last year.

If the 31-year-old competes in the championships next week, it will be his first appearance at a world championship or Olympics since 2017, when he won his third 800m world title in London.

The World Championships will be held in Eugene, Oregon from July 15th.
