Nightmare in Archena and dream in Molina

Date:

The archenero team disappears six years after its founding after it sold its place in Group XIII to the up-and-coming Molinense

Change of cards in the Vega Media. And we are not talking about players, but about clubs. In this case, in Group XIII of the Third Division, a club from Molina de Segura will participate again. The Molinense Sportbond fills the void left seven years ago by the last team in the municipality to enter the Third Division, CD Molinense. Although the way to get here means the disappearance of one of the cradles of regional football.

Molinense’s dream, in turn, is Archena Sport’s nightmare, which was founded in 2016 and reached its biggest milestone last year: taking part in the Third Division and, led by Jorge Perona, keeping the category. The club from the thermal city finished in twelfth position, three points above Bala Azul. A success for a young team that wanted to continue to grow and establish itself in that echelon of regional and national football.

However, the archenero project has been watered down. The lack of financial support to face the 22/23 campaign has led to this sad and unexpected end for archenero football. From the club, they view the outcome of an issue ending with Archena Sport’s short path as a major blow, an entity that sees its place in Third left to another young project from a neighboring municipality.

The Unión Deportiva Molinense CF will make its debut in the Third Division thanks to an ambitious and solid project. It will retain a team in Preferential, which will be its subsidiary, with the team from Group XIII of the Third Division as its crown jewel. UD Molinense has indeed found the business backing to boost and make the project solvent, something Archena Sport didn’t have. It was formed just two years ago after the merger of CF Molina and EF San Miguel, with the aim of bringing together and strengthening a powerful project in an important municipality like Molina de Segura. Last year they were close to promotion to the Third Division but were eliminated in the play-off by subsidiary Águilas FC.

It was previously known that Juando, former central defender of Real Murcia Imperial of Valladolid, among others, will be the team leader. Sergio Sánchez, former Caravaca coach, will occupy Molinense’s bench. In addition, several signings have been confirmed: goalkeepers Pablo Lajarín (Albacete Balompié) and Pepe Martínez (FC Cartagena), as well as players Iván Zaragoza (La Unión Atlético), Feli (UCAM B), Txiki (Archena), Champi (Orihuela), Toni Vela (FC Cartagena), Renato Da Silva (UD Caravaca), Nico (La Unión Atlético) and Garnes (CD Bullense). In addition, Antonio Ortiz has renewed. In Molina they are excited, while in Archena they wonder why their dream was so short.
