The tree of Parliament has confirmed this Wednesday the law of the decree of government where a guarantee is given Circuits of Catalonia and a financial counter-guarantee to receive the Formula One Grand Prix between the years 2023 to 2026.
The decree, which contains an article, allows the Government to provide a guarantee to the Circuïts de Catalunya and a financial counter-guarantee to carry out the “Formula One World Championship Limited promotion contract”.
The purpose, the order also indicates, is “to guarantee the payment of contractual rights for the organization of the Formula 1 Grand Prix from 2023 to 2026.”
It also established that the guaranteed amount may not exceed 25 million US dollars for the year 2023, 25.5 for 2024, 26.5 for 2025, and 28 for 2026.
The decree was endorsed by a large majority: PSC, ERC, JxCat and PPC, while Vox, the CUP, En Comú Podem and Cs voted against.
The order was defended by the Minister of Business and Labor, Roger Torrent, who indicated that it was “an instrument to comply with the agreement with the Circuit of Catalonia until 2026”.
“A Formula 1 World Championship -says Torrent- has a lot of followers, it is a very desired event, and many cities want to have the Formula 1 Grand Prix, and what we have achieved is that it stays in Catalonia until the World Cup of 2026”.
