Dani Santiago (Júpiter/Atlètic Sant Just) made it 1-0 as Universitat Ramon Llull de Barcelona defeated the University of Jyvaskyla (Finland) this Friday in a match on the second day of the EUSA football tournament or Games European Universities of Lodz – 2022, providing two tickets for the China Summer Universiade-2023.
The team led by Rubén García and Josep Maria Roma is now in second place in group D, tied on 4 points with the team from Charles University, their rival this Saturday in the final and decisive day of the preliminary stage. The Czechs lead the table thanks to their best scoring coefficient, +2, compared to Ramon Lull’s +1, and the two teams will fight for first place in the quarterfinals, scheduled for Monday.
Dani Santiago, who had already scored in Thursday’s draw with the University of Split, scored from a free kick at Stadium Minerska. La Ramon Llull could have won by a bigger score, but Jordi Ranera (Sant Cristóbal) and Arnau Corominas (Vilassar de Mar B) both hit the crossbar with the Finnish keeper beaten.
Against the University of Jyvaskyla, Iker Berzosa, Martí Puig, Ignasi Palacios, Sergi Vives, Arnau Corominas, Pau Mané, Jordi Ranera, Daniel Santiago, Sheng Zhou, Albert Garcia and Alejandro Pérez started. Eric López, Pol Bimbela, Óscar González, Marc Xargayo and Marcos Serra also performed.
“We played a very serious match,” insisted Roma, “everyone was very good.” Against the Croatian team “we deserved more”, lamented Rubén García, whose team plagued by young Catalan soccer stars “will come out on top” against the Czechs.
As the leader of the expedition, Àlex Martín, head of the Ramon Lull University Sports Service, traveled to Poland.
