Fernando Alonso was one of the stars at the start of the F1 French GP. From seventh position on the grid, the Spaniard shone with two overtakes in the first corners to claim fifth place from the start.
The Spanish driver chose the outside of Turn 1 and passed Norris. And right after, he had better traction than the Mercedes at the exit of that turn and passed Russell. However, the Briton, at the wheel of a Mercedes with more speed than the Alpine, was about to pass the Spaniard.

At the front, Charles Leclerc defended his position well against Verstappen, who if he didn’t close Hamilton out of turn 1, could have been overtaken by a Lewis who did very well to overtake and pass ‘Checo’ Pérez. Leclerc saved the first attack, but Max did not let Charles escape and on lap 6 his particular battle began with the Dutchman’s first attack and the Monegasque’s first defense.
For his part, Carlos Sainz, who started 19th, gained two starting positions despite starting on hard tires and began his comeback from there. As the rubber warmed he started to gain places and by the seventh lap he was 13th.
