The former American athlete Michael Johnsonwho holds four Olympic and eight world gold medals, announced his doubts about the timing in the semifinal of the 100 m hurdles of the world championships, where the Nigerian Tobi Amusan beat the world record with a mark of 12.12 seconds.
“I don’t think the 100m hurdles times are correct. The world record was broken by 0.8! 12 personal bests, 5 national records. And Cindy Sember commented after her national record: I thought I ran slow. All the athletes seemed surprised.”Johnson wrote on social media.
“In heat 2, we first saw the winning time of 12.53 and after a few seconds it was corrected to 12.43. Setting it to one hundred is normal, but 10 is not.”he added.
Amusan himself was very surprised to see the score appear on the Hayward Field video scoreboard.
