The stage of the 102nd edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya in Terres de l’Ebre will have as a great before the last climb to Dear Mont, one of the hardest and most impressive ports in Catalonia. A special category port, which includes the announced high end of La Molina and Vallter will make the 102nd edition of the Volta one of the most mountainous and tough in memory, with three finishes suitable only for top-level climbers.
So far, the winners of Mont Caro have been led by two Colombians, ALily Chizabas (1985, with Kelme) and the myth Lucho Herrera (1991, Apple Postobon), and the former world champion Alejandro Valverde (2017, with Movistar). On the next occasion, the range of possible winners will be very wide due to the wonderful participation that Volta registers year after year.
The start of the stage will have its stage in one of the most classic and historic towns of the Volta: Tortosa. The capital of Terres de l’Ebre has been linked to the Volta as a starting or ending stage on up to 68 occasions, especially in the 20th century.
