the australian Nick Kyrgiosfinalist of the last tournament of Wimbledonannounced this Tuesday on Instagram that he will not be joining the Laver Cup (September 23-25).
“There is no Laver Cup for me this year! I just want everyone to know,” said the former world number 13 on the social network, who is now 63rd in the ranking.
“I have to spend time with my family and my girlfriend,” reasoned the 27-year-old Australian, who also resigned last week to play in the singles draw of Atlanta ATP 250. Kyrgios, however, won the doubles with his compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis.
In this fifth edition of the Laver Cup, Kyrgios had to join the world team with the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassimethe Argentinian Diego Schwartzmann and the Americans Taylor Fritz Y Jack Sock.
The team led by the legendary John McEnroe thus missing an important element in the formidable European group formed, among others, by Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray Y Novak Djokovic.
This exhibition, created in 2017, is organized by the Team 8 company managed by Roger Federer and his agent Tony Godsick.
