Change of plans at the beginning of Qatar World Cup. The FIFA Council has decided “unanimously” to go ahead with the opening ceremony and the first official one-day matchscheduled for November 21 with Senegal-Netherlands, a rivalry that keeps the sun but changes the time, from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm
After the changes, the clash that will open the curtain will be the star Qatari and Ecuador the day before, on November 20 at 7:00 pm, tradition ensures that the host or the defending champions play the first match of the competition.
The FIFA statement
“The 2022 FIFA World Cup will begin with an even bigger celebration for fans from Qatar and around the world. On Sunday, November 20, the hosts will face Ecuador at 7:00 pm, with the only match of the day . The Bureau of the FIFA Council today unanimously decided to advance the match and the opening ceremony, which will take place at the Al Bait Stadium. As a result, the match between Senegal and the Netherlands will be played at 7:00 pm in Monday, November 21, instead of 1:00 pm
This change ensures the continuation of a long-standing FIFA World Cup™ tradition, where the hosts or defending champions will play the first match of the competition, which will be held at the same time as the opening ceremony. The decision was made after assessing the operational aspects and their impact on the tournament, as well as after consulting with key interest groups and the host country, which agreed.
The player’s loan period will continue to start on November 14, as decided and set out in the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players. Ticket holders will receive an email notifying them of those matches that have undergone changes. The locations will remain valid for the new dates and times. Furthermore, FIFA will attempt to resolve any issues arising from this change on a case-by-case basis.”
