American Will Zalatoris was crowned this Sunday with St. Jude Invitational, after winning a colorful three-hole playoff with Austrian Sepp Straka, which he won despite finishing with a ‘bogey’.
Zalatoris and Straka completed four rounds of St. Jude Invitational, played at TPC Southwind in Memphis (Tennessee), with a cumulative score of fifteen under par, so they played for the title in a tiebreaker.
The American and the Austrian completed the first two holes with par, four shots, but it was in the end when the tension became maximum.
Zalatori unleashed a shot that sent the ball less than four inches out of the water, just short of a penalty. Straka also missed the opening hit and, in his case, the ball ended up in the water, bringing his penalty. This allowed Zalatori to complete the hole with a bogey which was enough to give him his first PGA Tour title.
Jon Rahm finished with a total of eleven under par (269 shots) to finish in fifth place and add a new top-10 on the PGA Tour. On the final day he signed his best card with a 66 stroke with five birdies and only one bogey.
Chilean Joaquín Niemann finished thirteenth, with a cumulative score of nine under par (271 hits).
His compatriot Mito Pereira finished the tournament with a total of five under par, while Colombian Sebastián Muñoz finished with four under par.
