Slovenian Tim Gajser (Honda) was mathematically declared world champion in the premier category of motocross (MXGP) for the fourth time, to which he added his fifth universal title (he also won the crown in MX2).
It was enough for Gajser to be sixth and seventh in the two heats of the Finnish GP, held in Hryvinkaa, to prove his new success and become part of the elite in the history of motocross, as he reached five titles with Roger Decoster , Joel Smets, Eric Geboers and Jeffrey Herlings, and second only to Stefan Everts (10), Antonio Cairoli (9) and Joel Robert (6).
The Slovenian, former champion in MXGP in 2016, 2019 and 2020, and in MX2 in 2015, accumulates 674 points, to the 570 of the Swiss Jeremy Seewer (Yamaha) in the absence of tests in France and Turkey.
Dutch Glenn Coldenhoff (Yamaha) is third overall with 525 ahead of Spaniard Jorge Prado (GasGas), who added 517, after being fourth and twelfth at the Finnish Grand Prix, so he needs to keep going who fought to finish on the World Cup podium.
Also the Spaniard Rubén Fernández (Honda) made 16 and a 24. Overall he is seventh with 359 points.
Dutch Brian Bogers (Husqvarna) surprised in the first moto, where he got ahead of Coldenhoff and Frenchman Maxime Renaux (Yamaha), and in the second Coldenhoff prevailed ahead of Seewer and Renaux.
