The Colombian Nairo Quintana (Cómbita, 32 years old), he said after announcing his renewal at Arkéa – Samsic until 2025, presented in the Vuelta that starts this Friday at Utrecht (Netherlands) with the “ambition to find a place on the podium”.
The cyclist from Boyacá, winner of the Vuelta and Giro d’Italia and twice runner-up in the Tour de France, will try to take advantage of the mountainous profile of the Vuelta route to once again show his best condition and aim for the podium.
“This Vuelta offers 10 mountain stages and many high-altitude finishes. They will all be important and I am ready to fight with the team for victories and try to get a place on the podium,” said Quintana from Utrecht, where he is waiting with Arkea for the start of the Spanish round.
Quintana is happy with his recent renewal, highlighting a project that is developing and strengthened by new signings, such as French Champoussin.
“I consider the Arkéa-Samsic team as a family where I thrive. I appreciate the manager Emmanuel Hubert, who contacted me at the end of 2019, and I never forgot that. The team has grown since I joined it. I soon became convinced that I still have great sporting challenges to face in the Arkéa-Samsic jersey and that our good common history that started between the two since 2020 can only continue”, said Quintana.
Nairo Quintana has 11 wins since his debut in the Arkéa-Samsic jersey in 2020, including a race UCI World Tourthe final stage of the 2020 Paris-Nice. He is currently ranked 22nd in the 2022 UCI ranking.
As for the fight for promotion and relegation to the top category, Quintana expressed that he hopes his former team, the Movistar Team, will be saved and not lose the category.
