The Extremaduran Javier Cienfuegoswith a best throw of 73.26 meters, made it to the hammer final of the European Athletics Championships in Munich after the qualifying round dominated by the Polish Pawel Fajdekfive times world champion.
Cienfuegos, facing his sixth outdoor continental event at 32 years old, is in contention for qualification in the first series. He started the tournament without a throw, followed by a best, 73.26 meters, to finish with 71.91. That record allowed him to access the final with a final score of twelve classifieds.
This is the second time Cienfuegos has reached the continental final in his professional career. The last time was at Amsterdam 2016, when he was twelfth.
The qualification was dominated by Fajdek, who reached 79.76 meters, a mark higher than the 78.78 of his compatriot Wojciech Nowicki, second.
